Whether you’re just getting into mountain biking or you’re looking for your next bike, budget bike brands are always a great option. Like I mentioned in my post on how to buy a bike, companies making budget trail bikes have come a LONG way in the last decade. Thanks to constantly improving components/tech and direct to consumer sales models, you don’t have to pick between affordable and capable anymore. So, lets take a look at the best trail bikes on the market in 2024 that you should consider looking at.
Best Budget Trail Bikes List:
All 5 bikes here are extremely capable and all but one are direct to consumer brands. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses so the order is not that important. If I were looking at budget trail bikes in 2024, I would go with one of these.
1. Canyon Spectral 4

The Canyon Spectral 4 is beautiful bike, I mean just look at those lines. There’s a reason Canyon has a great reputation in the community. They’re bikes are well made, well priced, and stand out on the trail.

The Spectral 4 has modern geometry ready to tackle steep and sketchy trails. The suspension is handled by a RockShox Deluxe Select+ in the back and RockShox 35 up front with 160mm of travel. The drivetrain is covered by SRAM’s SX group set. Braking is also SRAM with their DB8 stoppers. The craziest part of all of this is that this bike is currently $1,699 on Canyon’s site!
2. YT Jeffsy Core 1

YT is one of those brands that you can really respect for staying so core to the sport. Their riders constantly riding the most insane lines and sending the craziest tricks and their bikes definitely reflect that. The Jeffsy Core 1 is no different even though it comes in a great price point.
Compared to the Canyon, YT equips the Jeffsy with a more capable fork, the RockShox Lyrik base at 150mm of travel. The shock is RockShox DLX Select+. You also see a bump in drivetrain components with SRAM’s NX line. The Jeffsy Core 1 is currently listed at $1,999.
3. Polygon Siskiu T8

Polygon is a relatively newer player to the game. They came in and absolutely blew everyone’s minds with the components they offered on their bikes at the price point they sold those bikes for. Rumor has it, Polygon started out when a factory that a few big name brands allegedly paid to build their bikes decided to just make their own brand. Who knows. What we do know is that these bikes are great, check out my review of the Siskiu T8 on my post here.
Like I said before, Polygon came out swinging with these bikes. At a current price of $2,199 you get a solid list of components. Fox 34 Rhythm up front, Fox DPs in the back makes for a smooth ride on the trail. Shimano’s SLX drivetrain (hands down my favorite out of all options) makes sure you never miss a shift.
4. Commencal Meta TR V4

Commencal is another one of those companies that’s committed to pushing the sport. Their riders drop amazing videos non-stop and put up great race results on these bikes. The Meta is just as its name suggests, meta. This thing can do it all and you will be hard pressed to find its limit.

This bikes interesting. For suspension you get a RockShox 35 Silver R up front, Deluxe Select in the back. The very reliable SRAM Guide T’s handle your stopping needs. For the drivetrain, you get SRAM SX derailleur and shifter, X1 crankset, NX chain, and PG cassette, very interesting mash up of parts there. Coming in at $1,900 right now this is a steal.
5. Rocky Mountain Instinct A10

Now this is more just an honorable mention because these bikes should not be on this list normally, there is just a crazy sale going on (if that changes I’ll update this). Rocky Mountain bikes are incredible, the suspension design on these bikes makes for a crazy supple smooth experience on the downhill and a comfortable efficient pedal on the up. I’ve even seen these things at lift access downhill parks.
On Rocky Mountain’s website they have the instinct A10 and A30 listed at right around $2,000. There’s a lot of great deals on mountain bikes going on right now but this might be one of the best ones!
In the End
There are a lot of options out there for budget trail bikes in 2024, this list is a good place to start but the more you look, the more you will definitely find. Brands are having deals all the time and more and more used bikes are hitting your local marketplace every day. Whatever bike you go with, ride it like ya stole it!
